THE WESTERN GLAUCOMA FOUNDATION

 

The MISSION of the foundation is to advance the research and treatment of glaucoma in US and international settings in a highly cost effective manner with low overhead and transparency to donors.

GOALS
1. To research the causes of open angle glaucoma by funding research into the genetics of open angle glaucoma, specific disorders in the trabecular meshwork and in the optic nerve.

2. To further physician education in glaucoma by conducting seminars and meetings devoted to the study of glaucoma.

3. To provide financial assistance to non-US ophthalmologists seeking glaucoma fellowship training in the United States or the United Kingdom.

4. To undertake research into the best method(s) of treatment of open angle glaucoma in a third world setting where commonly used technologies including medications and surgery is not readily available.

5. To provide funds for the purchase of medications and, in very select instances, surgery for individuals who do not qualify for normal forms of medical assistance.

6. To maintain a transparent relationship between donors and the Foundation The foundation will strive to have less than 7.5% overhead; it will adhere to US standards of general accounting practices; its programmatic and financial records will be available to any and all donors at all times in order to keep the organization completely transparent
